VEI Check · Body Composition

Before the scale number,
looking at the balance of muscle and fat

The body composition test uses multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) to quickly look at the balance of muscle, fat and body water. It shows how your body is made up in ways weight alone cannot, and we use it to set a direction for exercise, meals and body contouring care.

VEI Clinic, Gangnam — VEI Check · Body Composition

What We Measure

It is a non-invasive test done fully clothed, standing barefoot on the footplate and holding the hand grips.

  • Skeletal muscle mass and lean body mass
  • Body fat percentage and fat mass
  • Estimated visceral fat and waist-related indicators
  • Segmental analysis (balance of arms, legs and trunk)
  • Body water (intracellular and extracellular) and phase angle (depending on the device)
  • Basal metabolic rate and reference targets for weight and muscle

Who This Is For

  • People who want a baseline for weight management or exercise planning
  • People who want to check changes in their body regularly during care
  • People who want to review metabolic health, such as blood pressure, glucose and lipids, when needed
  • People who want to keep a record of their body composition during body contouring care

Before Your Test

  • Avoid large meals for 2 to 3 hours before the test and drink fluids as usual
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours and vigorous exercise for 8 to 12 hours before the test
  • Empty your bladder within 30 minutes before the test
  • Remove metal accessories and wipe off any lotion or cream on your hands and feet
  • Menstruation, swelling or acute illness can change results, so we discuss rescheduling if needed

Visit Flow

Your time at the clinic is about 15 to 20 minutes including the results review. Re-measurement is usually every 4 to 8 weeks or in line with your care plan.

  • Check-in and consultation: we review your goals, medical history and medications
  • The measurement is taken with shoes and socks off (about 2 to 3 minutes)
  • We explain the key numbers and practical points such as protein intake, activity and hydration
  • We set a time to re-measure and, when needed, continue with a weight management consultation or other care

Who Should Talk With Us First

  • People with a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device (we do not perform the test because of the measuring current)
  • People who are pregnant (we discuss timing or other options)
  • People with wounds or infection at the contact areas, or a severe fluid imbalance

How VEI Clinic Works

We review body composition results together with an internal medicine specialist consultation and, when needed, link them with other tests such as blood work to set a care plan. Care consultations take place in private single rooms.

What body composition numbers mean and how to manage them can vary from person to person, and the specialist decides after your consultation which care is suitable. This test is not an emergency service, so if you have emergency symptoms, call 119 or go to an emergency room.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How long does the test take?

The measurement itself takes about 2 to 3 minutes, and about 15 to 20 minutes including consultation and results.

Why do my results vary slightly each time?

Meals, hydration, exercise, alcohol, menstruation or swelling can change the results. Measuring under the same preparation conditions makes changes easier to compare.

How often should I be measured?

Usually every 4 to 8 weeks, or as set by your care plan.

Can I be tested if I have a pacemaker?

Because of the measuring current, we do not perform this test for people with a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device. We will discuss other ways to check.
